Initiated around 2000, the Human Genome Project aimed to sequence the entire human genome with high hopes of revolutionizing medical care. Although the Human Genome Project achieved a monumental technical feat in 2003, its overstated promises, such as personalized gene therapies and carrying genome cards, were evident. Most diseases, including major ones like diabetes, involve many genes and environmental factors, making single-gene solutions impractical.
