Worms navigate narrow paths faster than wide ones – these findings could inform robot design
K. R. Prathyusha, University of Colorado Boulder You might naturally expect a wide, open path to be faster…
Muscle coordination can be mimicked by electric motors – it could lead to improved robots
Hermes Bloomfield-Gadêlha, University of Bristol People often take their muscles for granted. They pick up a bag, tighten…
A flexible lens controlled by light-activated artificial muscles promises to let soft machines see
This rubbery disc is an artificial eye that could give soft robots vision. Corey Zheng/Georgia Institute of Technology…
Robots Don’t Need to Look Human
Unlike traditional metallic and humanoid robots, future robots might be soft and flexible and come in various shapes…
Elephants use the tips of their trunks to grasp things with great precision – how this can help robotic design
Pauline Costes, Sorbonne Université An elephant uses its trunk for eating, drinking water, communicating, exploring the environment, social…
We designed wormlike, limbless robots that navigate obstacle courses − they could be used for search and rescue one day
Limbless robots may not need lots of complex algorithms when they have mechanical intelligence. Tianyu Wang Tianyu Wang,…
