Surprisingly enough, the closest living relatives to all dinosaurs—and, by extension, all living birds—are the crocodilians. Despite this, their dinosaur relatives perished from that famous extinction-level asteroid 65 million years ago. How did dinosaurs get away and thrive while their (non-avian) cousins didn’t?
