Dams provide essential services like hydropower and flood control but inevitably trap sediment, reducing reservoir capacity over time. The Lewis and Clark Reservoir has already lost 30% of its capacity. By 2045, it could be half-filled with sediment, highlighting a slow-moving but unavoidable issue for all reservoirs worldwide.
