The Dark Forest Hypothesis is presented as a solution to the Fermi Paradox, which refers to the apparent contradiction between the high probability of extraterrestrial civilizations and the lack of evidence for, or contact with, such civilizations. It suggests that other technological species in the galaxy may choose to remain silent or adopt a watchful, trigger-happy silence out of fear of being destroyed.
