This finding is significant because the central zone of a planetary disk is where rocky planets like Earth usually form. However, the discovery at PDS 70 challenges this notion and suggests that water might be a primary ingredient available from the beginning of rocky planet formation. The researchers propose that the water might have originated from a water-rich nebula that gave rise to the PDS 70 system or could have formed from oxygen and hydrogen gas in the outer rims of the disk, drifting closer to the star.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While no planets have been directly observed near the center of PDS 70&#8217;s disk, discovering two gas giant planets farther out, known as <a href=\"https:\/\/exoplanets.nasa.gov\/exoplanet-catalog\/7301\/pds-70-b\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">PDS 70 b<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/exoplanets.nasa.gov\/exoplanet-catalog\/7414\/pds-70-c\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"and c\">and c<\/a>, indicates that the system is actively undergoing planet formation.
