The thermite reaction, discovered by Hans Goldschmidt in the late 1800s, releases immense heat, reaching temperatures over 2,000°C. Initially developed to produce pure metals, thermite reactions involve a metal oxide reacting with aluminum to form aluminum oxide and pure metal.
