Trilobites, one of the most successful ancient animals, were first documented by fossil collector Edward Lhwyd in the 17th century. These arthropods dominated the oceans for 270 million years and are closely related to modern horseshoe crabs. They are named for their three-lobed bodies and thrived during the Cambrian period, also known as the ‘Age of Trilobites.’
